Vietnamese Community raise $120,000 for charity
The Vietnamese Charity Group of Western Australia has well and truly ‘thanked Australia’ by announcing their grand total of $120,000 for charity as part of their “Thank you Australia” fundraiser lunch and auction last week.
The tremendous effort could not have come at a better time for recipient charities, the St Vincent de Paul Society and The Salvation Army as winter is now in full swing and calls for emergency welfare assistance reach critical levels.
The event held on Sunday June 1, 2008 at the Chung Wah Hall in Balcatta was coordinated by the Vietnamese Charity Group and the Vietnamese Community of WA, as a way to express their deep appreciation to the Australian Community at large for welcoming them as refugees since the late 1970’s.
Mr Nam Pham, President of the Vietnamese Community in Western Australia said, “This was a great community event with a meaningful purpose that gives all Vietnamese Australian’s an opportunity to say ‘Thank You Australia’ for its generosity. This event is a reflection of our culture and tradition of showing appreciation and repaying those who helped us in times of need.”
The Salvation Army and the St Vincent de Paul Society expressed immense gratitude for the generosity of the Vietnamese Community and were both delighted to be involved and entrusted with the funds raised – ensuring donors all funds raised will go directly back into helping disadvantaged people in WA.
